Shonda Rhimes is an American director, producer and screenwriter. She directed her first short film Blossoms and Veils in 1997. The following year, she wrote a screenplay for HBO's TV film Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. In 2001, she wrote the screenplay for Crossroads, Britney Spears' first film. In 2004, she worked on the screenplay for the film The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement with Anne Hathaway.

In 2005, she was revealed to the general public through the medical series Grey's Anatomy, of which she is the creator. Later, she also created two spin-offs of this series: Private Practice in 2007 and Station 19 in 2018. She will also participate in the writing of the script for certain episodes.
Grey's Anatomy has won numerous nominations and awards, including the "Best New Television Series" award at the Writers Guild of America Awards 2006, "Best Dramatic Television Series Production" at the Producers Guild of America Awards 2007, and the "Best Screenplay in a Dramatic Television Series" award three years running at the NAACP Image Awards (2008, 2009 and 2010).

In 2005, she created her own production company ShondaLand. In 2007, she was considered one of the 100 most influential people according to the famous Time Magazine.

In 2012, she launched the Scandal series. In 2011, she will be participating in the medical series Off the Map as an executive producer. She is also the producer of the series How to Get Away With Murder, launched in 2014.

In 2015, she published her first book, an autobiography, entitled "Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand in the Sun, and Be Your Own Person".

In 2017, she launched the Still Star-Crossed series, which imagines a sequel to William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet".

She launched a series of lawyers called For the People in 2018.
