The Expanse: In the 23rd century, the solar system is entirely colonized by humans. It is in a tense context, and under the constant threat of a new war, that a young woman mysteriously disappears, leading the detective in charge of the case and the captain of a ship in a race through the solar system. At the same time, a cargo ship is destroyed by an unknown vessel, leaving only a few survivors. When these two investigations come together, they discover a vast conspiracy that threatens the peace between Earth, Mars and the other colonies, as well as the survival of humanity.
Chrisjen Avasarala is the Secretary General of the United Nations, which governs Earth. Coming from a very long line of Earth politicians, she takes her role very seriously. She is a smart and clever woman with a double-edged personality, both cold and warm, ruthless and maternal, erudite and elegant, always neat but not afraid to use vulgarity.
Shohreh Aghdashloo is an Iranian-American actress. She embarked on a theatrical career at the age of 19, against the advice of her family. In 1976, she got her first film role in the movie Shatranj-e baad. But it was her second film, Gozāresh in 1977, which made her known, and her third, Sooteh Delan in 1978, which established her as one of the great stars of Iranian cinema. Her acting career then took her to Los Angeles. She played in her first American film in 1989, Guests of Hotel Astoria. She made her television debut the following year in an episode of the series Matlock.
In 2000, after a seven-year absence, she made her return with the critically acclaimed film Surviving Paradise. In 2003, she starred in House of Sand and Fog, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, as well as several awards, including the Golden Globes. She then got a recurring role in season 4 of 24 Hours. In 2006, she appeared in the series Will and Grace, ER, Grey's Anatomy and in the film X-Men: The Final Confrontation. In 2008, she appeared in the miniseries House of Saddam, a performance that won her an Emmy Award. She made appearances in several series between 2009 and 2015 (Dr. House, NCIS, Bones, Grimm or Elementary). In 2009, she was recognized for her humanitarian achievements at the WIFTS Foundation International Visionary Awards. In 2013, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Noor Iranian Film Festival. She landed one of the lead roles in the sci-fi series The Expanse in 2015, which is her biggest project to date. Then in 2017, she participated in the Monte Carlo Television Festival as a member of the jury.
